Ki-Ring Gai Art Center, 2006

After many years in an artistic holding pattern, spending my time building up a career as a film stylist / Art Director / Graphic Artist, Draftsman, Storyboard Artist, purchaser, something clicked around 1999. Not sure why, but it probably had a lot to do with completing the build of my dream studio at the rear of my house in Earlwood, Sydney. I finally had time and space - I went for it. The sleeping muses jolted awake and put the fire back into my belly. I picked up from where I had left off in the heady days of the mid 80's, after the Darlo Daze and well after a decade of career building, home renovating and child rearing. I turned 50 in this year, 2006. A good time to have a one man show - a retrospective - new and old works as well as turn it into a party. The opening night at the Ku-ring Gai Art Center, Roseville, Sydney was a great success in terms of vibe and fun - and I managed to sell about a third of the work. The party continued back at my place in Roseville. I hadn't told my friends it really was my 50th Birthday party. Uncomfortably I had to give a short speech to my guests. That morning while leafing through the Sydney Morning Herald I saw a short article on the soon to be performing, Leonard Cohen. I carefully cut it out because there was this amazing quote. That night at the opening I pulled out the cutting and unfolded it. I read the following quote from one of my musical heroes and spritual guides, it made a lot of sense to me although I don't really know what it means:
"There is a crack in everything.
That's where the light gets in."
That's where the light gets in."
