Day 25 - Steam Bath

Unless you're at the front of the plane with the leg room and extra comfy seats, a long flight is just no fun. The seats have too many hard edges and the small touch screen tv in the seat behind your head is a form of torcher as the poke is transfered to your almost asleep brain at about 10 volts - enough to keep sleep at bay.

Our final OS destination is Hong Kong. Our hotel is really charming and designer so we revel in the luxury and revive with multi head showers. Water is no problem in this city of over 7 million, busy, hustling, brand conscious consumers. Water literally hangs in the air.

The crowded streets are not like the thick easy pace of a London Camden Markets. Politeness is not on the radar. Say what you have to say, walk at the correct speed or get the f**k out of the way. No prisoners are taken here. The hot steamy air slightly dissolves your clothes so they cling to parts of your body you wish they wouldn't.

As night creeps into the city and the four of us emerge from a nearby cafe, sated by good cheap Chinese won tons, noodles and smelly mushrooms (and the like). We begin our highly confused, map spinning walk to the Temple Street night markets. We give up and get a cab.

Stall after stall of interesting crap. Eagle eye Karol spots a small glass, etched eiffel tower, identical to my Paris 2nd hand shop souvenir. Damn, I thought it was so authentic - still like it though. It sits on a small led light pedestal which changes colour. OK - I buy the pedestal for 20 HK dollars - about  $AUD 2.50. Cheap! Remy buys some sew on patches, Dion a satin oriental wrap jacket, Karol, a Jimmy Choo knock off bag.

Dion bumps into an old buddy, Tony
We leave the markets and wander what to do now. No idea.  Walking along in pairs to suit the the thick flow of pedestrians we are stopped in our tracks. Dion has just bumped into a friend from Sydney. Tony was a buddy who moved back to Hong Kong a few years ago. What were the chances of that! Tony is at a loose end and offers to take us on a night tour. We gladly except and he negotiates us to the harbour where we check out the bright new super modern foreshore and then do a harbour crossing to the island. It's cool having a guide but we soon run out of steam. Dion and Tony go off to do boy things and we crawl back to our hotel. No way to get a cab. They dismiss us rudely with some mumblings about the island. Looks like they wouldn't waste their time on such a short trip. We're quite lost and need the hotel to tell us how to get back by foot.

The night is really one long walk through a steam bath. At one point I feel a little light headed and think the footpath is tilting. So good to collapse into bed after a real blast of water and try to sleep listening to the rattling air con. Good night dear bloggers, thanks for following along, it's been fun getting this stuff down, life's like a blast in a hot steam bath! xx :-)
