Our hostess Laurance prepared another wonderful breakfast and we had a final hang with the good people from Ashville, USA, the ever charming Tom and his sweet lady Linda. The Citroen was programmed for a landing in Normandy and we headed off with a tinge of regret at leaving this delicious slice of French country hospitality and home made jam.

On the way we explored a castle built by Richard the Lion Heart high above the Seine. We were on the way to dip our toes into the channel waters of Brittany. The same beaches used for D-Day landings during WWII. Our next stay was at a place called 'Manoir de la Marjolaine', only 300m from these beaches. It is a late 18th century manor in the neo classic style. Tall, stately and reeking of gentry and the like. When we arrived at the closed wrought iron gates, we looked down the long gravel driveway and saw this old Don Juan lying gracefully in among huge chestnuts and oaks. In front was a nice little black sports car with a peacock pecking around it. Hmm, very nice. Here are some pics of the manoir..

What wasn't very nice was climbing the fence when no one answered the intercom after repeated buzzes and calls to the house. Was this some kind of internet fraud we'd been sucked into? This is the kind of place that has a pack of Dobermans or Rottweilers bounding out of the bushes as I approached the house. Gulp, not real happy about this one. No one answered the door - luckily no guard dogs. We sat in the car calling the original internet agent in London - all good, the owner had gone to the supermarket - back in 30 minutes. Well, we had some time to kill so we went to do a landing at Normandy..

Here's some pics we took of our trip north to the coast. We had a nice little picnic, saw some ruins, walked the beach at Cabourg and watched the sun setting while eating and drinking. Got to love that!
