Alky, Karol, Dion and Remy go to Europe
June 16 - August 18, 2012 - itinerary
Week 1 - Sydney, Singapore, London

Waiting at Sydney airport for a first flight to Europe as a family. Week 1 was exciting and also a steep learning curve. We negotiated airports, waiting lounges, foreign currency, each other, taxis, hotels and restaurants - roughly in that order!

Week 2 - London, Czech Republic, France

Week 2 added a new depth to our holiday. Reconnecting with our family in the Czech Republic made the journey more real. We looked into their lives, ate with them and heard their stories. We discovered them and their lives. Yes it was brief but no less real, no less mesmerizing. We discovered that there were stories everywhere and that to travel was to tease them out, to let them speak to you.

Week 3 - France / Germany

Week 3 was interesting for the family dynamic as the boys took a train to Berlin for a 5 day detour and Karol and I arrived in France for 5 days of driving around the countryside north of Paris. The last 2 days of this week we all reunited in the awesome city of Paris. Our apartment was huge and beautiful and we lapped up everything - now fully greedy for all things new and wonderful.

Week 4 - France, Hong Kong

Week 4 was our final week away. 5 days of lapping up Paris and wishing it could go on for ever. To know an end is in sight does sweeten any experience, don't you think? I mean, life should be like that. You just need to be reminded. Fearing an end is no way to enjoy the present of course. Knowing that our days were being pulled off the calendar meant that we all needed to do what we each wanted. Often this meant going solo during the day and cabbing through the City Of Lights together at night. Ah just wonderful it twas!
